Three Dimensional Figures

Vocabulary to know: Face – a flat surface of a three dimensional figure. Edge – where two faces meet. Vertex – point where three or more edges meet.

Vertex Edge Face Base

Prism Definition: A three dimensional figure with two parallel, congruent bases. The base can be any polygon. The other faces must be parallelograms.

Pyramid Definition: A three dimensional figure with base, and faces made of triangles. The base can be any polygon.

Pyramid Definition: A three dimensional figure with base, and faces made of triangles. The base can be any polygon.

Naming a Prism or Pyramid Step 1 Identify and name the base Step 2 Identify if it is a prism or pyramid

Name the figure Rectangular Prism

Name the figure Triangular Prism

Name the figure Pentagonal Pyramid

Name the figure Cone

Name the figure Sphere

Name the figure Cylinder

Name the figure Cube

Cube (a.k.a. – square prism) Special Cases Cone Sphere Cube (a.k.a. – square prism) Cylinder
