United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Conference Years: 1973 to 1982 Year It Came Into Force: 1994 (after Guyana became the 60 th nation to sign it). International Scope ( United Nations ) 163 Countries.

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is an international agreement which resulted from the 3 rd UNCLOS. It defines the various rights that countries are entitled to and the responsibilities that they must carry when it comes to the use of the worlds oceans. It establishes guidelines in the areas of business, and management of marine natural resources. When the treaty was completed, it replaced four previous UNCLOS.
