Why the Coaching Framework? The purpose of the Wake County Public Schools Coaching Framework is to provide consistency, cohesion, and clarity to the work of coaches in order to ●increase student achievement ●improve a reflective and collaborative professional culture

Why Now?

How Will Coaches Support This? ●Coaches will partner with the administrative team to align the systems and structures of the school to promote a reflective and collaborative school culture. ●Coaches will provide job-embedded professional learning in order to improve the quality of instruction resulting in increased achievement for all students.

What Will This Look Like? All coaches will ●work with teachers, provide strategic support to PLTs, and partner with administrative teams ●attend on-going district facilitated professional learning ●follow expectations of coaches as outlined in the WCPSS Coaching Framework

What Will This Look Like? All principals will ●receive support and guidance through the WCPSS Coaching Framework ●engage in on-going professional learning, which will include opportunities to learn with your coaches ●ensure that all coaches will participate in the district professional learning and content coaching meetings ●evaluate all coaches using the Teacher Leader Specialist Evaluation

How Will Coaches Be Hired? As a part of the system of tiering levels of support for schools, we are phasing in a vetting process for the hiring of all coaches in WCPSS. ● Hiring Process o Elementary schools at 65% or higher will hire through a vetting process. ● Vetting Process o All coaches will be vetted centrally and go into a pool for principal selection.

Now What? Improved Instruction = Student Achievement

How can you protect the roles of the coach? Discuss & jot down ideas as a table group.

What is the Value of a Coach? Every time a coach helps a teacher implement a new teaching or learning strategy, the coach is helping every other student that teacher will teach. One step forward for a teacher is one step forward for hundreds or thousands of children. Multiply that impact by all that a coach does every day, and you get a clear picture of the value of instructional coaches. _Dr. Jim Knight
