What are Body Measurements??  Body Measurements: the exact dimensions of a body

Take Body Measurements  What should you be wearing to take body measurements?  Fitted clothing/ undergarments

Take Body Measurements  For more accurate body measurements, have a partner take your measurements  Use a measuring tape!  It is a flexible, non-stretchable, plastic, 60 inch long measuring tool  Be sure to hold it snug, but not tight

Determine Pattern Size  How can I find my pattern size?  Compare your measurements to the charts in your book, on the pattern or in the pattern catalog. Find the measurements closest to yours.

Determine Patten Size  Women: Bust size is the determining measurement for dresses and tops  Women: Hip size is the determining measurement for shorts and pants  Men: Chest size for jackets and tops  Men: Neck band and sleeve length fro dress shirts  Men: Waist for pants and shorts

Determine Pattern Size  Luckily, the pattern companies have joined together for standard sizing.  However the Apparel Industry clothing is not standardized and varies from company to company so even if you know your size in clothing from a store its just not the same.

Techniques to Take Body Measurements for Men  Chest: at the fullest part  Waist: Smallest part of the waistline  Inseam: From the underside of the crotch to desired hem length  Hips: at the fullest part  Neck band: Measurement around the base of the neck + ½”  Arm length: from the prominent bone a the base of the neck along the back of a slightly bent elbow to the wrist bone
