Scale Scale – is one of your illusion tools To make something appear smaller – put larger scale patterns or details next to. To make something appear larger – place small scale pattern or details next to. To keep balanced – place medium scale pattern or detail next to.

Scale

Scale – if I normally have a larger scale body but have e.g. smaller hands, fingers – what scale do I choose? For your body - overall scale – choose medium scale prints, large scale handbags and shoes. For your hands and wrists, choose medium to small scale rings and bracelets

Body Variations Draw attention away with details – pockets, seams, embellishment, accessories Keep plain and boring if you don’t want to draw attention Balance using horizontal, vertical, curved or diagonal lines

Body Variations How do I dress my large chested, petite, H (an 8 with a stomach), short waisted, self Balance bust with large necklace and lower neckline to first balance point Avoid waist detail, keep clothes fitted but skimming End tops at hip bone Skirts end just above the knee, or full length straight leg trousers as long as possible but not hitting the ground

Body Variations For example I have an A shape body ( hips wider than shoulders, defined waist), but I have some excessive bust (UK size 34K). A shape recommendation dark and boring from the waist down, and light/ colorful patterned, frills all kinds of details. double buttons, large collars etc from the waist up. Well large bust recommendation is the opposite : single buttons, no big collars, no big patterns on the bust etc. Usually I go with the large bust recommendation from the waist up, and the A shape recommendation from the waist down, but then I actually dressing as an X shape... Your bust may be providing the horizontal detail in your upper body to balance your hips naturally which will give you an X or balanced appearance. There is nothing wrong with dressing as an X. Focus on broadening shoulders with shoulder pads or shoulder detail/embellishment – ignore all other upper body A shape rules. Use large bust recommendations to balance your bust

Body Variations I find it not my best spot for tops length at my hipbones because my tummy seems in focus as well as my crotch when I wear short tops with jeans or slacks To disguise a rounded tummy, end your tops just below – about 2.5cm or 1” the fullest part of your tummy. This will visually cut your tummy and make it appear smaller. Do not wear tops to the bottom of your tummy if they are fitted as the top will cup it and make it appear more prominent.

Body Variations Do you have tips how to bring everything together? E.g. sometimes it is difficult, e.g. if I’d like to broaden my shoulders, I see in the pic that a boat neck is good but I also read that it is not if I have a large bust. You can broaden shoulders using: Shoulder pads Shoulder detail Set in sleeves Embellishment on your shoulders such as epaulettes You can wear a high neckline as long as you then create a lower focal point on your first balance point with a necklace

Body Variations If I wear cropped trousers it highlights how chunky my ankles are. Do you have any advice? I'm especially interested in how to dress in warm weather Wear Bermuda shorts that end just above the knee Wear low vamp shoes without horizontal straps Avoid cropped pants unless you have long legs and are tall If you must wear cropped trousers keep them in a beige or “skin” type colour and make sure they slim down at the ankles rather than are flappy or wide at the ankle Skirts and dresses are also an option of course!

Body Variations Being petite I have followed the column of color faithfully for a few years. While it gives a long line I found it to be too much like a uniform-despite changing accessories. I have broken that rule and feel more stylish and happier as a result--at the cost of wearing different colors top and bottom. The best way I can do column of color is by wearing a dress--and I do that very often now. What recommendations if any do you have regarding this dilemma for petites Column of colour is only 1 way of lengthening. Look for vertical details in all your outfits such as vertical seams and details. Add open jackets or cardigans which provide verticals Add scarves which create verticals Draw attention to your face with accessories Only 1 focal point at a time Consider scale – it’s easy to overwhelm a petite frame with too much fabric or detail

Fabric What you like – the feel What flatters you – the drape and weight
