STORYLINES (PLOTS) Reynoso, Ramsey Ann R. BSMT-2B Humanities 13 July 05, 2015 Mr. Jaime Cabrera CEU, Philippines I learn about literary plots, electronic research, and citing references by completing this activity. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 See : Common Genres of Fiction herehere See : Homework Guide herehere

PLOT or STORYLINE  Plot is a narrative (and, traditionally, literary) term defined as the events that make up a story, particularly: as they relate to one another in a pattern or in a sequence; as they relate to each other through cause and effect; how the reader views the story; or simply by coincidence.  Ansen Dibell, Ph.D. (1999). Plot. Elements of Fiction Writing. Writer's Digest Books. pp. 5 retrieved from wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_(narrative)  Plot is the summarization of the story. This is where the whole story will be found.  In a far away kingdom, Cinderella is living happily with her family until her mother dies. Cinderella's father remarries a cruel woman who has two daughters. When the father dies, Cinderella's wicked stepmother turns her into a servant in her own house. Meanwhile, across town in the castle, the King determines that his son the Prince should find a suitable bride and provide him with a required number of grandchildren. The King invites every eligible maiden in the kingdom. At this point, enters the Fairy Godmother, the pumpkin carriage, the royal ball, the stroke of midnight, the glass slipper, and the rest, as they say, is fairy tale history. 1a

RISING ACTION  The rising action is where the tension or suspense builds and the problem becomes more complicated.  lesson-quiz.html retrieved from Study.com retrieved from study.com lesson-quiz.html retrieved from Study.com  The rising action is where the story gets more interesting. This is where problems arise.  Cinderella finds out that the ball is forbidden by her cruel step-mother and her stepsisters but she didn’t listen and gets magical help from her fairy godmother and goes to the ball. 2

TURNING POINT  Turning point is a time at which a decisive change in a situation occurs, especially one with beneficial results.  webster.com/dictionary/turning%20point retrieved from Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary webster.com/dictionary/turning%20point  Turning point is where the situation goes to a different direction not in a way you are expecting.  As the clock stroke 12, Cinderella ran away from the prince as fast as she could. The prince looked for him but the only thing that he found is the glass slippers. 3

CLIMAX  The climax is the decisive moment or the crossroads in the story. This is usually the most exciting part in the story and often makes the reader keep reading.  retrieved from dictionary.reference.com  Climax is the most exciting part. This is where you can see a lit of solution in the problem of the story.  The Prince looked for Cinderella in every way possible. She was kept locked in the attic by her cruel stepmother, forbidden her to get out but then the prince discovered that she’s in there. 4

FALLING ACTION  The falling action is the sequence of events that happen after the climax that lead to a resolution for the characters.  story-definition-examples-quiz.html retrieved from Study.com retrieved from study.com story-definition-examples-quiz.html retrieved from Study.com  The falling action is where the problem is being solved.  The prince gently slipped the glass slipper into Cinderella’s foot and it matched her size. 5

RESOLUTION  The resolution is the result or conclusion of the story. This is how things turn out for the characters who were involved in the conflict.  definition-examples-quiz.html retrieved from study.com definition-examples-quiz.html  The resolution is simply tying up any loose ends that may be left in the story. It is the end of the story.  Cinderella married the Prince and they lived happily ever after. 6

PLOT ELEMENTS: Brain Practice Reynoso, Ramsey Ann R. BSMT-2B Humanities 13 July 05, 2015 Mr. Jaime Cabrera CEU, Philippines I personalize my learning about the parts of literary plot by completing this three-part activity. Related Stuff

New concepts learned  I have learned all the different elements in the stories. It is the plot, the rising action, the turning point, the climax, the falling action and the resolution.  I have learned all of their importance and their relation with each other. Without any of those, the stories will be bland and unexciting. NEW INPUTS1

This reminds me of…  The days that we experience problems.  I can relate it to my life in a way that whenever you have a problem there will always be a resolution for it. If you can’t find the answers then maybe it is not yet the end of your story. CONNECTIONS2

Usefulness in real situations  I can use what I have learned when facing a problem.  I know that in life there are always ups and downs, and twists and turns. I will not be discouraged by the problems, hence I’ll find a way to fight it.  If things are not going the way that it should be then maybe you are not yet in the end. Maybe you are in the rising action of your life or the climax, just have courage and be kind. APPLICATIONS3 Note: Tests may include ideas from this source and this source.this source
