Unit: Critical Reading and Literary Response March 2, 2015 Grade Level 11R Time Required: 43 Unit: Critical Reading and Literary Response March 2, 2015 Standards to be addressed: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1-3 above.) SWBAT: Critically read to identify elements of an argument; Develop an appropriately complex thesis statement.

Example: Tobacco should be illegal for purchase or use. Directions: Choose two of the following statements and create a claim statement about each of the following topics using the formula Although A, B because C. If a student and teacher have problems getting along, either one should be able to request a change in teachers. Parents should have to pay a fine when their kids skip school.
