STANDARD 5 CHAPTER 12 REVIEW-ANSWERS PCC

What is the first step in the basic process of planning a career? The first step is to research the big picture by asking yourself questions such as which jobs are growing (job outlook), what kind of education and training will you need, and does the career offer opportunities for advancement?

What is the purpose of a career plan? To identify your skills and interests. To find a career or career cluster that suits your skills and interests. To determine the type of education and training you will need to succeed. Should be SMART - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely. Should start long before high school graduation. Make adjustments along the way.

Why is it important to revisit it? So you can make adjustments or corrections. Your goals might change as you develop new interests and abilities so your career plan will change, too.

List 5 things to include in your career plan. 1. An analysis of careers or career clusters that match personal skills, interests, and abilities. 2. an academic plan aligned with a selected career or career cluster. 3. An analysis of the outlook for the selected career or career cluster. 4. Assessment of the financial resources required to achieve goals. 5. Career Assessment.

What is the final step to complete your career self assessment worksheet? List your top 2 preferred career clusters- the clusters that best match your skills, interests and abilities

List at least 5 resources for identifying career opportunities. 1. Networking 2. Online resources 3. Want ads 4. Career Counselors 5. Employment agencies 6. Job Fairs

What is one reason networking is an excellent way to find career opportunities? How should you keep track of your networking contacts? Employers like to hire people who come with a recommendation from someone they know and trust. → You will have a record of each communication to help you stay organized and focused.

Why dress appropriately if/when you visit a career fair? When you attend a career fair, you are being evaluated as a potential employee. Company representatives are looking for people to hire.

A map that shows you the way to achieve your career? Career Plan.
