Antigens are proteins and chemicals foreign to the body.  I5. Vaccines contain weakened antigens.  A6. Active immunity occurs when the body makes its own antigens.  F7. Antibodies are substances that are made in response to an antigen.  C8. Passive immunity occurs when antibodies are introduced from an outside source.  E9. Lymphocytes are attacked by the AIDS virus.  G10. Enzymes destroy pathogens in stomach, pancreas, liver.

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria  11. Why does antibiotic resistance occur?  Some are naturally resistant. Some mutate to develop a resistance.  12.  One of your patients is refusing to finish his antibiotic prescription. How does the Immune System work? Antigens (foreign substances) are detected. Antibodies are present to attack antigens again. Immunizations introduce antigens to a person’s body. T cells destroy antigens that have been “tagged” by antibodies. Antibodies neutralize toxins and kill bacteria, viruses, and other infected cells.
