Universidad Latina de Panamá WEBQUEST Save The Whales Luis Alberto Barrios González Monday, April 25th, 2005.

Many of you know that whales are becoming extinct and we need to do all that we can to help save their lives. Whales are in danger because of environmental pollution from human irresponsibility’s and illegal fishing. Conservation efforts have increased the population of whales that live off the coast. We need you to help save the whales! You are an Environmentalist and it is your job to research with your group how to save whales. Through this project, you will learn about the whales and how you can help to save them.

Your task is to research saving whales and then determine what your group can do to help save the whales from Extinction. Remember, you are an Environmentalist on an important mission. The future of whales depends on you and your team members. Class Activities:  A speaker will come to talk about saving the whales.  Make bookmarks to raise money.  Adopt a whale for our class.  Class decides best way to help in our own community. Group Activities:  Research using the library and internet resources provided to find information on whales.  Create a poster that relates to saving whales. Be creative and use your imagination. Individual Activities:  Write a one page paper about how you feel you can help the whales.

You will learn about whales and their environments and the dangers they face every day. You will participate in the following activities: Groups: 1. Visit the library and find books about whales. 2. Use the Internet sites provided to research whales. 3. Using the information you have found, create a poster to describe your save the whale efforts. Pick from the following topics: Climate change,Toxic Pollution, Illegal Fishing (whaling), and Boating Activities. Class: 1. We will make whale bookmarks out of construction paper and yarn to sell and raise money. 2. We will use the money we raise to adopt a whale for our classroom. The goal is $ Class will discuss and decide together a community project that will improve the environment for the local wildlife. Individual: 1. You will be responsible for writing a one page paper on what you have learned about saving the whales and what you can do to help.

Great Work! You have learned about what YOU can do to save the whales. Throughout this project your team of environmentalists has saved a whale, helped our community, and brought more awareness to our cause. Remember, you can continue to help the whales and other animals in our environment by keeping beaches, parks, streams, and forests clean of litter and pollution.
