To make waters clean for consumption and recreation. Tristen Orear Alli Bargelski

The 1977 amendments:  Regulates pollutant discharge in U.S. waters.  Allowed EPA to create pollution control programs.  Made a standard of how much pollution can be deposited into U.S. waters.  Can’t dump sewage without a permit.  Noticed that they need to pay more attention to non-direct sources of pollution as well.

 The Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1948 was the first major U.S. law to address water pollution.  Congress started the CWA in 1972.

Nonpoint sources  Run-off of chemicals and sediments from cropland, livestock feedlots, logged forests, urban streets, parking lots, lawns, lawns, and golf courses. Point Sources  Pollutants at specific locations through drain pipes, ditches, or sewer lines.

 Less Pollution.  Started sewage treatment plants.  Raised awareness to other causes of pollution.  There pretty much aren’t any… I mean look at it…
