Collage Henri Matisse Blue Nude

Collage From the French: coller, to glue Can be made from numerous different objects: – Magazines or Newspaper – Photos – Found objects (Fabric, buttons) – Can be combined with drawing or painting. Usually glued to a flat surface such as paper or canvas

Picasso and Braque Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque invented the art form of collage They used newspaper clippings combined with painting, charcoal and other materials.

Decoupage Decoupage: A type of collage usually defined as a craft. It is the process of placing a picture onto an object for decoration. Decoupage can involve adding multiple copies of the same image, cut and layered to add depth. The picture is often coated with varnish or some other sealant for protection.

Decoupage

Photomontage Photomontage: Collage made from photographs, or parts of photographs. The composite picture was sometimes photographed so that the final image is converted back into a seamless photographic print. The same method is accomplished today using image-editing software. The technique is referred to by professionals as compositing.

Photomontage Richard Hamilton, John McHale, Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing? 1956, collage

Assemblage Assemblage: A related sculpture technique where objects that are not usually used for art are attached together to create a sculpture.
