He was born on November 19, 1831 in a one room log cabin in Orange, Ohio Mothers name was Eliza His father died when Garfield was 1-1/2 years old

He began school at the age of three Attended school at Chester which is located in Ohio Jobs: carpenter assistant, teacher, tutor, Secretary of interior, lay preacher, republican state senate, general n the military, President

Nominated the Republican candidate for President on the thirty-sixth ballot Communicated with Letters, telegrams

the morning of July 2, 1881, while boarding a train, Garfield was shot twice by Charles Guiteau. After he shot Garfield, he shouted “I am a Stalwart. Arthur is now President”.

Guiteau had mental issues. There was no Stalwart conspiracy. Guiteau was hanged on June 30, Garfield laid in the hospital for weeks, and finally died on September 19, 1881, only 200 days into his term as President
