ALEX WILKENS OBJECTIVE: TO BECOME AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES I am extremely hard-working. I have a lot of self-pride in my work ethic. I believe I can do anything because of this mind set. I know I can conquer and overcome any obstacle I have a Type-A personality -- am a perfectionist sort of person. I am very introspective and hold myself to a high standard. I am harder on myself and put more pressure on myself to excel than anybody. I have a genuine care and compassion for all people. I value the role as a mentor because mentors have changed my life and I feel it is my responsibility to do the same for others. I have a high amount of common sense. There is no ego with me – I am not afraid to ask questions.

COACHING EXPERIENCE 2008-Present: Varsity Assistant Football Coach at Glenvar High School in Roanoke County Public Schools 2011-Present: Defensive Coordinator for Varsity Football Team

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Represented Roanoke County on the Switch to Block Scheduling Committee in 2011 Served on the Textbook Adoption Committee this past year for the County Biology Department Endorsed to Teach Biology & Earth Science

PROFESSIONAL VISION I believe that every student should be challenged to meet their potential. I feel it is not only important to teach the students content but also teach them life lessons such as discipline, accountability, and intrinsic motivation. (ISLLC 5) I feel it is the job of the school to not only teach students, but to facilitate their questioning and reflection on open-ended problems. This promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills needed to compete for the jobs of today that are so focused on the STEM concept. (ISLLC 1) I believe that technology is the most important thing we can teach to our kids. It is the way of the future and if students cannot learn new tasks and systems they will be ill-equipped in todays ever-growing technological world.

PROFESSIONAL VISION I believe in the golden rule and feel that is something that needs to be emphasized in todays schools. My goal is to promote the success of all students by acting in a fair and ethical manner with integrity being the foundation of my value system. (ISLLC 5) I believe for the school to be successful there needs to be involvement from the community, parents, teachers, and students. (ISLLC 4) The school is a place where people should enjoy spending their time. Be it at work, as a student, at after school events, etc. A school with a good, positive culture is usually a successful school. (ISLLC 2)
