Bell Work Activity Directions: Please take out a sheet of paper and answer the following questions. A.Do you agree that sodas of the same brand, taste the same even though they are manufactured at different locations? If so, why do you think so? B.How do you think different shoe makers make shoe sizes that are consistently the same for most of their customers? For example, if you wear a size 8, you can wear size 8 in most other shoes. 2 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

A. There are several important terms and definitions students need to know. B. Students will now complete the Matching Definitions handout on Computer-Aided Design. Students may work in groups. Warm-Up Activity Computer-Aided Design Terms 3 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Computer-Aided Design Overview Throughout the history of manufacturing and building construction, it has been important for engineers and architects to follow precise technical specifications. Technical drawings have been used since ancient times to communicate the required specifications for product and building construction. 4 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Computer-Aided Design During the 1980s, the use of CAD software increased dramatically and began to eliminate the use of the manual drafting process. The use of CAD software is relatively easy to learn and very cost effective. Software allows viewing and modification of images from any angle (2D, 3D, etc.) 5 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Computer-Aided Design Software There are many CAD software programs available. It is important to purchase or download a version that you will be comfortable using. Select a CAD/drafting program that can be used to create professional quality mechanical designs, house plans, blueprints, schematics and charts utilizing American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drawing standards. 6 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Computer-Aided Design Software A wide variety of CAD products can be created with the CAD software. Review a few of the following samples. 7 Castor WheelPlumbing LayoutAutomobile Layout Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.
