4. Natural Gas Heating System Operations Overview The natural gas heating process involves controlling air temperatures within an enclosed living environment. The basic process has been used for centuries. 5. Natural Gas Heating System Operations Natural Gas furnaces use the principle of “forced air heating” to heat homes and buildings. Air is drawn into the furnace, heated, and forced throughout the building through ductwork.
