Task ► Your objective is to plan a vacation using the Internet resources provided. The idea is to calculate the cost of the trip and to determine the length of the trip. Afterwards you will graph the results and analyze the graph mathematically. ► Good Luck!

Process One Variables to consider are: Variables to consider are: Gasoline Gasoline Gasoline Motels Motels Motels Speed Limit (55 mph – Residential) (65mph – Interstate) Speed Limit (55 mph – Residential) (65mph – Interstate) Distance to and from destination Distance to and from destination Distance to and from destination Distance to and from destination Remember that your vehicle gets 29 mpg on interstates, and 22 mpg in residential areas. Remember that your vehicle gets 29 mpg on interstates, and 22 mpg in residential areas.

Process Two After all costs are collected: After all costs are collected: Fill in the table that is provided Fill in the table that is providedtable Graph the following variables: Graph the following variables: Distance vs. Time Distance vs. Time Distance vs. Cost Distance vs. Cost People vs. Cost People vs. Cost Design your graph so that the x- axis is relative to quantity (distance/people) and the y-axis is relative to cost/time. Design your graph so that the x- axis is relative to quantity (distance/people) and the y-axis is relative to cost/time. Be sure that each set of variables is differentiable. Be sure that each set of variables is differentiable.

Process Three A one page summary of your trip needs to accompany the table, the graph, and your analysis that you will turn in at the conclusion of this virtual trip. Evaluation ► Your project will be worth 100 points and will be graded using the following components: A completed information table (25pts). A completed information table (25pts). A well constructed graph (25pts). A well constructed graph (25pts). The mathematical analysis used for the project (25pts). The mathematical analysis used for the project (25pts). A well written summary (25pts). A well written summary (25pts). ► All components must be completed; failure to complete any part will result in zero points for said part.

Conclusion Hopefully, this task has illustrated and provided a knowledge of the basic economic, geographical, and mathematical concepts of everyday life.

Teacher Page This WebQuest was designed to provide students with an understanding of the everyday uses of economics, geography and mathematical analysis. Ultimately, it was compiled to show how Social Studies and Mathematics are relative to one another. Resources Questions and Concerns
