Oh no! Can you get the formula back? Someone has stolen the Krabby Patty secret formula while SpongeBob was supposed to be watching it. It’s your job to help SpongeBob get it back. Think of yourselves as his sidekick, the Barnacle Boy to his Mermaid Man! To help SpongeBob you need to get into your assigned group of three and have someone be the designated calculator, someone else to be in charge of the group’s chart that will be turned in, and someone else to keep the group on task. Your task will be centered around the formula we learned in class for distance. Email me at twright04@bellarmine.edu if you have any questions concerning the WebQuest along the way!twright04@bellarmine.edu

Your task is to first get into your assigned groups of three and select an option from the bolded list below and answer the following questions below in that format. All three of the questions are related to the distance formula we talked about in class. 1.What transportation will get SpongeBob to Shell City the fastest? 2.How far away Shell City is from Bikini Bottom? 3.And finally, how much gas will SpongeBob need to get to Shell City and how much his gas will cost him? You will be graded on depth of thought in your answers as well as how organized your info is. You can find a link to you evaluation on the bottom right of the page and it lists everything you will be graded on and how much each thing is worth. OPTIONS: You can either put this information in a chart form, make a poster with the information on it, create a story of SpongeBob’s adventure including the answers to those four parts, or write short answers in a narrative format to turn in for a grade.

Step One Step Three Step Two Before you start the process, you and your team will need to design an organizational tool to help you keep up with all the information you will be finding on this WebQuest. This organizational tool will help you when your team begins to do your poster, story, chart, or essay style answers. Remember that all the steps involve the distance formula. Get started with Step one below!

Back to process Now that SpongeBob is all packed up it’s your job to get him to Shell City, where Plankton has taken the Krabby Patty formula. Click on the picture of Bikini Atoll to be taken to timeanddate.com where you will select the search option and type in Majuro, which is located in the Marshall Islands near Bikini Atoll. In the next place you will want to search for Sydney, Australia and click Calculate Distance. [This step doesn’t involve the formula directly, but you will use this information in the next step.]

Back to process Spongebob has two modes of transportation that can help him locate the Krabby Patty formula in Shell City: Boaty (his boat mobile) and The bus Your job is to select one of the modes of transportation and by using the links provided (click on the pictures) figure out how long SpongeBob’s trip will last. (Remember Time=Distance/Speed.) Do this for Boaty and the bus in order to decide which would be the fastest way for SpongeBob to get to the formula.

Back to process Now that you’ve determined the speed, distance and time it will take for SpongeBob to get to Shell City there’s one final thing SpongeBob needs to do, fill up his tank. So your task is to use the link provided (click the gas tank) to find the current gas price. After that, assuming the things provided in the table below, determine how much money it will cost SpongeBob to get to Shell City. SpongeBob goes straight from Bikini Bottom to Sydney without stopping for food or anymore gas. Your group should develop an effective formula to determine how much gas SpongeBob will use, assuming his car gets 20 miles per gallon of gas on the underwater highway. Also determine how much gas SpongeBob will use for the trip home. Since he can’t just stay in Shell City forever. Use that information to determine a different formula to calculate how much gas will cost SpongeBob altogether.

AreaQuestions to ask yourselfPoints Possible Participation Did you get all of the questions answered? 10pts Did you work effectively? 10pts Did everyone offer something positive to the group and work well together? 5pts 25pts Ideas Did your team develop any good ideas about how to calculate how much gas would cost in total? 15pts Did your group communicate effectively while doing formulas? 5pts Did everyone offer input while developing the gas formula? Was this formula successful? 5pts 25pts Organization Did you arrange the information in an thought out, organized way? 15pts Does all the information flow in a way that is easy to read and comprehend? 15pts 30pts Development Do your answers effectively show the depth of your thought? 10pts Are the answers you and your teams came up with clear and concise? 10pts 20pts

Congratulations! SpongeBob has now retrieved the formula before Mr.Krabs even realized it was gone. You’ve successfully completed SpongeBob’s journey through the ocean. If you’re still having trouble with the distance formula, you and you your group can go to these sites and review how to use the formula. Speed/Distance/Time Formula Help One Help Two
