Oh no! Someone has stolen the Krabby Patty secret formula while SpongeBob was supposed to be watching it. It’s your job to help SoongeBob prepare for his trip and get him to Shell City where the missing formula is located. Think of yourself as his sidekick, the Barnacle Boy to his Mermaid Man and make sure he gets the formula back!

Your task is to first get into your assigned groups of three or four. From there you are to develop one piece of paper that has the four following items on it in an organized way. 1.What suitcase is appropriate for SpongeBob to take on his trip 2.What transportation will get SpongeBob to Shell City the fastest 3.How far away Shell City is from Bikini Bottom 4.And finally, how much gas will SpongeBob need to get to Shell City and how much his gas will cost him You will be graded on depth of thought in your answers as well as how organized your info is. You can find a link to you evaluation on the bottom right of the page and it lists everything you will be graded on and how much each thing is worth.

Step One Step Three Step Four Step Two Before you start the process, you and your team will need to design an organizational tool to help you keep up with all the information you will be finding on this webquest. You will need an area to write the letter of a suitcase, the distance between Bikini Atoll and Sydney, Australia, a place to put each mode of transportation, the time it will take SpongeBob to get to the location using each mode of transportation, a place for the transportation your group decides is the most economical, and how much gas SpongeBob will use for his trip and how much that gas will cost him. Get started with Step one below!

Back to process SpongeBob needs to pack his luggage before he goes… Click the suitcases below and determine which suitcase will hold approximately 4 pairs of his square pants that are about 10 inches in width and 6 inches in length. After deciding which is the best suitcase, fill in the box on your group’s individual paper that corresponds with the correct suitcase. Step Three Step Two Step Four Step One 12

Back to process Now that SpongeBob is all packed up it’s your job to get him to Shell City, where Plankton has taken the Krabby Patty formula. Click on the picture of Bikini Atoll to be taken to timeanddate.com where you will select the search option and type in Majuro, which is located in the Marshall Islands near Bikini Atoll. In the next place you will want to search for Sydney, Australia and click Calculate Distance. Step Three Step Two Step Four Step One

Back to process Spongebob has three modes of transportation that can help him locate the Krabby Patty formula in Shell City: His unicycle Boaty (his boat mobile) and The bus Your job is to select one of the modes of transportation and by using the links provided (click on the pictures) figure out how long SpongeBob’s trip will last. Remember Time=Distance/Speed. Repeat this process for every mode of transportation and decide which would be the fastest way for SpongeBob to get to the formula and place the answer on the appropriate space on your organizational tool. Step Three Step Two Step Four Step One

Back to process Now that you’ve determined the speed, distance and time it will take for SpongeBob to get to Shell City there’s one final thing SpongeBob needs to do, fill up his tank. So your task is to use the link provided (click the gas tank) to find the current gas price. After that, assuming the things provided in the table below, determine how much money it will cost SpongeBob to get to Shell City. Step Three Step Two Step Four Step One SpongeBob goes straight from Bikini Bottom to Sydney without stopping for food or anymore gas. Your group should develop an effective formula to determine how much gas SpongeBob will use, assuming his car gets 20 miles per gallon of gas on the underwater highway. Also determine how much gas SpongeBob will use for the trip home. Since he can’t just stay in Shell City forever. Use that information to determine a different formula to calsulat how much gas will cost SpongeBob altogether.

AreaQuestions to ask yourselfPoints Possible Participation Did you get all of the questions answered? 10pts Did you work effectively? 10pts Did everyone offer something positive to the group and work well together? 5pts 25pts Ideas Did your team develop any good ideas about how to calculate how much gas would cost in total? 15pts Did your group communicate effectively while doing formulas? 5pts Did everyone offer input while developing the gas formula?
