Municipal Courts Municipal court – courts in NM – Judges – Limited jurisdiction over municipal ordinance criminal cases Usually petty misdemeanors=$500 fine and 6 months or less in jail – Appeals are de novo to District Court – Municode.com contains municipal ordnances for select NM cities – Santa Teresa High School Intro to LPSCS 3

Magistrate Courts Magistrate court – 32 courts 1 for every county except Bernalillo – 67 Judges – Jurisdiction over all misdemeanors and petty misdemeanors – Limited civil jurisdiction in up to $10,000 – Appeals are de novo to District Court Santa Teresa High School Intro to LPSCS 4
