Microsoft Innovative Teacher Awards READ THIS CAREFULLY The following slides provide you with guidelines for the content of your Innovative Teacher Awards entry. Use each slide to describe your project or learning activity by answer the questions that are posed. 1)You may delete this slide after reading / printing its contents 2)The final presentation should NOT exceed 5 Mb 3)You may add slides, images and effects as long as you observe the 5Mb file size limit 4)You may change font sizes but we recommend that you apply the following guidelines: No more than 6 points per slide; no more than 20 words per point 5)To achieve a balance between maximum appeal and minimum file size we recommend that you compress all images in the document to 96dpi (Format | Picture | Compress in XP and Format | Adjust | Compress Pictures in 2007 or later) 6)Use this template in conjunction with the judging criteria to be found at 7)Once you have completed this template save it using your surname, name and project title as the file name (e.g. Bradfield_Linda_Trash to Treasure). 8)Upload your project in the folder called “2011 IEF Submissions” in the “South African Microsoft Innovative Teachers Forum” community of the Partners in Learning Network.

Project Description In one paragraph of no more than 120 words describe what your project was about.

Context Include some photos of your classroom, your school and your community You may include a Bing map helping us locate your school In not more than 100 words describe the challenges faced at your school – and how your project or learning activity aimed to address some of these challenges.

Project Learning Design and Structure What are the stated objectives and learning outcomes of your project? What are the main components of the project or learning activity? Over what time frame does the project or activity take place? Do students plan their work and assess their work over time? If so – how?

Planning for Learning How was the learning planned for this project or learning activity? How does the planning of the project facilitate the development of 21st century skills e.g. knowledge building, use of ICT for learning, problem-solving and innovation, self-regulation, collaboration and skilled communication?

Evidence of Learning In this section please provide some evidence of student work e.g. photos, embedded texts or documents that students have produced, links to their online work etc. Explain how the student work demonstrates different dimensions of 21 st Century Skills e.g. knowledge building, use of ICT for learning, problem-solving and innovation, self-regulation, collaboration and skilled communication.

Collaboration Who did students collaborate with to complete this activity? To what extent does the learning activity require students to collaborate and negotiate with other people? In what ways has the collaboration shaped either the content, process or product of the students’ work?

Knowledge Building To what extent does the learning activity stimulate students to build knowledge? Is the knowledge built through the learning activity cross- disciplinary?

Extended Learning Beyond the Classroom To what extent does the learning activity require problem-solving based on interaction with the world outside the classroom? Are students’ solutions implemented in the real world or is the work that they produce shared with the real world?

Use of ICT for Learning To what extent do students use ICT in ways that support knowledge building, collaboration, and learning beyond the classroom? Does the use of ICT use enable new knowledge- building/collaboration/learning beyond the classroom opportunities that would not have been possible without it? How have the tools been used in imaginative ways to support learning processes?

Teacher as Innovator and Change Agent How have you as the teacher significantly changed the learning process through the use of ICT for learning?

Conclusion This is your final opportunity to explain what makes your project innovative.
