1-2 Objective: Today you will learn some basic terms and symbols in geometry so that you will be able to use and name basic shapes and terms. Today is all about vocabulary and know which symbol goes with each when naming the item.

KEY VOCABULARY Point A location. Space Points that lie on the same line. Line Series of points that extends in two opposite directions without end. Set of all points. Collinear Points Plane Coplanar Postulate Flat surface that has no thickness and extends without end in the directions of all its lines. Points and lines in the same plane Statement of fact. Use a single UPPER case letter. Use any 2 points in either order on the line with the line symbol above the letters Use 3 or 4 noncollinear points on the plane Definition How to Name Objective: Today you will learn some basic terms and symbols in geometry so that you will be able to use and name basic shapes and terms.

Parallel Planes Ray Opposite Rays Parallel Lines Skew Lines Segment Part of a line consisting of two endpoints and all points between them. Part of a line consisting of one endpoint and all the points of the line on one side of the endpoint. Two collinear rays with the same endpoint. Opposite rays always form a line. Noncoplanar lines that are not parallel and do not intersect. Coplanar lines that do not intersect. Planes that do not intersect. Use 2 endpoints in either order with the segment symbol above the letters Use the endpoint first and any other point on the ray with the ray symbol Use || symbol between the names of the 2 lines Objective: Today you will learn some basic terms and symbols in geometry so that you will be able to use and name basic shapes and terms.
