Chapter 8 Section 1 Pages

1. Respiration- oxygen + fuel  carbon dioxide + ENERGY+ water vapor This occurs in cells! It is NOT the same thing as breathing, it is a way to make ENERGY

2. Reproduction- to make more (copies)of a species 2 Different Types Sexual- involves 2 parents Asexual- involves 1 parent

3. Response to Stimuli- a reaction to an action Stimulus- something that causes a reaction or a response Ex: You shiver when your cold Respond to environment Aka.. SENSITIVITY

4. Growth- to develop emotionally & physically over time Cells multiply Cells get larger (1x celled organisms)

5. Movement- internal or external motion Ex: running, heart beating, blood flowing, flowers bending toward sun, trees move water from ground to leaves

6. Excretion- to get rid of waste Ex: animals go to the “bathroom”, trees release oxygen from leaves

7. Nutrition- to get basic needs met (food, water, nutrients)

Organism- any living thing

Homeostasis- regulation of an organism’s internal conditions, despite change in the environment Ex: keeping right amount of food, sugar & water in cells Ex: keeping body temp around 98.6 degrees F

~~Most energy used by organisms comes directly or indirectly from the SUN~~
