1 MR CHROGER VOCABULARY 1.Record the definitions. 2.Draw pictures that represent each life function.

2 Metabolism  Chemical reactions in the body.  Convert food and water into energy and waste products.

3 Reproduce  create offspring  Asexual or sexual

4 Cells – smallest unit of life.  Multicellular – plants and animals are made of many cells!  Single celled organisms are made of only one cell!

5 Homeostasis  Organisms need to maintain an internal balance  Not enough water = dehydrated  Too much water = water poisoning

6 Response to Environment  Stimulus  Response  Ex. It’s cold outside (stimulus), so you start to shiver (response)  Organisms evolve to survive in the environment

7 Obtain and use energy  Plants absorb suns energy  Animals consume nutrients

8 Grow and develop  All living things have a life cycle – birth to adult

9 Excrete waste  Get rid of waste  Animal waste - #1, #2, CO 2, sweat (salt), heat

10 Respiration  Exchanging gases with the atmosphere (to create energy)
