Presentation transcript:

What is a personal project?  a personal project is an opportunity for you to create, design, build, discover, and/or invent what you want to  the personal project can take many forms, including:  a work of art  a piece of literary fiction (creative writing)  an original science experiment  an invention or specially designed object or system  the presentation of a developed business, management, or organisational plan  a written piece of work on a specific topic.

What is a good topic?  one that you really want to do  one that is personal  one that relates to one of the areas of interaction (in addition to ATL)  one that is manageable

What are some topics that students in other MYP schools have done?  creating a patchwork quilt  using art as autobiography  designing and creating a model of a vehicle  creating a documentary on dance  designing a paper wedding dress  designing and printing new uniforms  writing a short story set in a fantasy world  designing a football website (There is a list of sample topics on page 34 of your booklet.)

Why are you doing a personal project this year?  because it is part of the MYP certification process  because it is a great opportunity to show your ATL skills and your understanding of the Areas of Interaction  because it is a culminating activity for the MYP  because it is excellent preparation for the IB- diploma programme (and the extended essay)  because it is an opportunity for you to show your creative genius

What is involved in doing a personal project?  A PROJECT: you must choose a topic and create/design/invent/plan something significant to you  A PROCESS JOURNAL: you must keep a journal of all your ideas, research, challenges, interviews, diagrams, sources, etc.  A PERSONAL STATEMENT: after you complete your project, you will write a personal statement (up to 4000 words) which will be evaluated. Your process journal will provide much of the information for this paper.
