TALKING TILES Getting To Know You…a problem solving process

CHOOSE YOUR TILES… Select an arrangement that shares a Pattern You will need to be creative and put together something that works for you Make sure your arrangement has substantial pieces

ADHERE ONE BACKGROUND TO EACH TILE… Music SheetsHandmade Papers Text from BooksTravel Maps Gift Wrapping TissuesStamps Telephone Pages (white or yellow)Comics Fabric ScrapsWall Papers Napkin, Paper Towels, Toilet PaperNature (petals, leaves) Magazine ImagesShopping Bags Universal PhotosNewspaper Clippings Decorative PapersPaint Swatches

USING MODGE PODGE Place a couple sheets of newspaper under your tiles while you are working for easy clean-up. While using your back ground papers be mindful of the scraps…save them in a zip-lock. Edges can be torn (ripped)or cut. Modge Podge goes under and over the images.

BACKGROUND SAMPLES…

ADDING COLOR WASHES… Act as though each tile is a separate canvas…what colors will you add? Do you know the meaning? Water down Acrylic and use a rag to control amount. (handout provided) After final layer coat with modge podge to seal.

EVERYTHING SHOULD RELATE TO YOU… MAKE A CONNECTION Take one individual tile at a time and be creative. Do what comes naturally but vary your mediums. I will be looking for experimentation and creativity. Each tile is a separate entity. Don’t work with the intent to match. Express yourself and show me what you can do!

GRADING CRITERIA BASED ON… Completion of Task Layering of Materials Personal Experimentation Overall Creativity Made Connections to Yourself Craftsmanship Engaged/Effort Informal Presentation
