Microscopes 4th Grade NMGK-12 Project #76

Dissecting Microscope l low magnification l approximately 2 to 50 times larger than life l used to see some detail on large objects (whole animals) l use a light source that shines from the top

Dissecting Microscope magnification knob eyepiece head arm focus knob base objective light

Compound Microscope l higher magnification l 40 to 1000 times larger than life l used to view fine detail on small, thin objects l light is transmitted through the object from underneath l usually use a slide to hold object

Compound Microscope eyepiece objectives stage coarse focus knob fine focus knob light base

Using the Microscope l do not move the microscopes l use only the fine focus knobs on the compound microscopes l focus SLOWLY l use both eyes (do not close one)

Animal Diversity 4th Grade NMGK-12 Project #76

Kingdom Animalia l many cells l eat other organisms (plant or animal) to get energy l live on land or in water (fresh or salt) l move somehow

Activities l break into groups of 4 or 5 l go to one of the 8 stations l read the information on the card l answer the questions on your worksheet
