What is Relay For Life? One Day, One Night, One Community, One Fight

Relay For Life The American Cancer Society’s signature event to fight cancer. Teams of people work together to fundraise in the fight against cancer, then gather at Anderson HS track to celebrate the lives of those who’ve had cancer, remember those we’ve lost and fight back! For 18 hours, each team tries to keep a team member walking on the track at all times. While this is going on, there is entertainment, food, games and activities.

History in Anderson Began in 2000 and raised $52, 174 Since its inception, has raised half a million dollars in the fight against cancer In 2009, we had over 800 community members participate in the event and raised over $75,000

Education 66 Youth Survivor Scholarships were awarded this past year in Ohio. STAMP (Stay Tobacco Free Athlete Mentor Program) reached over 16,000 middle school students with evidence-based tobacco prevention. We educate the public on early detection and prevention, focusing on making healthy lifestyle choices to reduce the risk of cancer. Advocacy Lead organization in Smoke Free Ohio Currently working to make Colorectal Cancer screening coverage available through all insurance Focusing on Access to Care insurance issues  1 in 4 American families goes through their entire savings when faced with cancer. Should they have to choose between their health or their financial stability? How we fight cancer

Local Services Since its opening in 2004, over 200 patients have been served at the Cincinnati Hope Lodge Reach to Recovery program provided peer support and information to 618 Ohioans facing a diagnosis of breast cancer. 981 women were reached through the Look Good…Feel Better program. Our Patient Navigator Program had over 3,100 contacts, fulfilling over 9,000 requests for resources and/or services with cancer patients, family members and caregivers

Research We funded 44 researchers who later won Noble Prize Discovered link between tobacco use and lung cancer through CPS-1 (Cancer Prevention Study) Proved link between life choices & cancer rates in CPS-2 Currently investigating other causes of cancer in CPS-3 If you know someone who has had a pap smear, mammogram, or used tamoxifen, then you know someone who has benefited from Society research findings

In Involve the entire Anderson Community in this engaging event. This includes community members from all different backgrounds! Make this year’s event reach $82,000 and 50 teams. You will make a difference!
