2. What is Relay? Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

3. Why Relay? One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. The funds raised at Relay save lives by funding cutting-edge cancer research, early detection and prevention education, advocacy efforts, and life-affirming patient services. It is because of your involvement that we are able to save lives, help those battling cancer, and empower all to fight back against the disease.

4. Speakers There a few speakers who gave testimonies of their cancer and their survival There stories were stories of courage and determination These speakers inspired everyone in the audience to work harder in the fight against cancer

5. Dr. Schmier & Dr. Bartholomew Two of my FYE teachers, Dr. Louie Schmier and Dr. Sarah Bartholomew, handed out certificates to the teams who participated in relay to thank them for the money they raised

6. Survivor Lap The survivors of cancer took a lap around the track after the opening ceremonies This lap symbolized the strength that these people had and still have in their tough lives This was a beautiful first lap to begin the a day of giving and raising for cancer research
