DEFINITIONS: Refraction: The turning or bending of any wave, such as a light or sound wave, when it passes from one medium into another of different optical density.

WHY DOES LIGHT BEND?? Light bends because when it passes from a substance of one density into a substance of a different density. The bending occurs because the speed in which light travels through a substance depends on the substance's density
