Pediatricians :) O Pediatricians are medical doctors who care for the young people from newborns to young adults. O Core Task: -perform physical exams, routine health screenings; illness treatment for conditions such as colds and flu; treatment of minor injuries, including cuts and sprains; treatment and management of chronic diseases such as diabetes or asthma; and wellness and disease prevention, as well as helping patients go through difficult times with a healthy mind set, and providing emotional needs for children.

Math, Science, Technology? O Science is used in the medical field by the study of the human body. O Math is used everyday in many ways for a Pediatrics O Using math to test an infectious disease to determine if a child has good levels of antibiotics in their blood stream. O A pediatric cardiologist might used formulas to figure out how well a child’s heart is working O Calculating child’s body mass index, which can help determine if they are overweight, underweight or at a healthy weight O Writes a prescription for the child; has to consider the child’s weight & the medications dosage to determine how much medicine to give to the child. O They also use computers to graph or put down data on the child’s growth and health over the years till they reach adulthood.

Why? O Markita: I really enjoy communicating with people. I enjoy teaching people ways on how to keep themselves healthy. I also want to help those who are diagnose with different diseases and help treat them. And I also want to help children through difficult times in their life as far as school, things at home etc. O Mayra: I want to go into medicine, as well as earn a major, maybe a masters, in Biology which all relates back to the doctor world 8) and I also like helping people so an interest in psychology too.

Interest and What We Learned O What we learned is that one would have to complete high school and get a master’s degree but before that, get into medical school one would have to take a Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). O All doctors must successfully complete a state license exam as well. O Pediatricians also have to go through a written exam by the American Board of Pediatrics to be certified and recertification is required every 7 years. O What I found that was cool about a pediatrician is that how much money they can make. Pediatricians make up to $100,000 to $300,000 a year or more!

Things We’d Like To Know.... O Hmmm nothing really, if we do, we have Google :D and the lovely VNA center :)

Things we Learned in the Past 2 Years Helped in This Profession In algebra we learned how to graph different things as far as showing the growth in something. And for a pediatrics, they use graph and tables to determine how much the child has grown. We also learned how to make up formulas to define the variable of something. Pediatrics set up formulas to determine on how much medication to give to the patience.

Attributes and Abilities O Compassionate. O Patient. O A love for children. O Communication. O Willing to upgrade knowledge and skills as far as science, technology, and math. <3 O Charismatic.
