The Art of Photography How do you see things?

Where it all began… Ancient Times Camera Obscura camera - latin for “room” obscura - latin for “dark” -hence the term “darkroom” to be used later…

Brief History of Photography 16th century: Brightness and clarity of camera obscuras improved by enlarging the hole inserting a telescope lens. 17th century: Camera obscuras in frequent use by artists and made portable in the form of sedan chairs. 1826: Nicéphore Niépce combines the camera obscura with photosensitive paper to make the worlds first photograph.

1837: Louis Daguerre creates images on silver-plated copper, coated with a solution and "developed" with mercury. Daguerre is awarded money by the French government in exchange for publicity and the rights to for others to use the process. 1834: Henry Fox Talbot creates permanent (negative) images using paper soaked in silver chloride and fixed with a salt solution. 1861: Physicist James Clerk-Maxwell demonstrates color photography involving three black and white photos, each taken through a red, green, or blue filter.

1877: Eadweard Muybridge, takes first action photography settling do all of a horse’s hooves leave the ground at once. 1888-89: Frist Kodak camera containing roll of paper. Improved to then take roll of film instead. 1907: First commercial color film made in France. 1924: German company Leitz markets first 35mm camera. 1936: Development of Kodachrome, first color multi-layered color film. 1940’s: First commercial 35mm cameras for sale in several countries.

1963: First color instant film developed by Polaroid; Instamatic released by Kodak. 1978: Konica introduces first point-and-shoot, autofocus camera. 1980: Sony demonstrates first consumer camcorder. 1992: Kodak introduces PhotoCD. 1998: First digital still cameras available to the public.
