Human Rights and Wellbeing Learning intention: To understand what human rights are, how they are governed and think about if they provide fair wellbeing for all?

Human Rights Base is found in religion/culture which is incredibly interwoven. An overall standard upon which we must base the treatment of all human beings.

Human Rights and Rights and Wrongs Do you believe there rights and wrongs in the world? Can we enforce these on all people?

Relativism (Cultural and otherwise) Can you tell people what their culture or religion teaches them is wrong? Colonial settlers around the world did this... eg. The “Stolen Generations” in Australia and Canada We still do this today. female infanticide in China stoning of females for adultery in Middle East death penalty in the USA (?) wearing of the burqa/hijab (?)

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Is this really enforceable? Australian Human Rights Commission A piece of legislation passed through parliament Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms A piece of our Constitution

Australian Human Rights Commission Australian Human Rights Commission Regulations 1989 include: "discrimination on the grounds of race or nationality, religious, colour or ethnic origin, racial vilification, age, sex or gender, sexual harassment, marital or relationship status, sexual orientation, gender identity, intersex status, actual or potential pregnancy, breastfeeding, trade union activity, criminal record, medical record, impairment or physical disability"

How Closely Does Our World Follow the UDHR?

Human Rights and Wellbeing? How could having a standard set of basic human rights be seen as helping better wellbeing?
