Demographics  Abingdon Elementary School : Student population of 530 students Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth grades. 45% of students meet the criteria for economically disadvantaged. Approximately 22% of the student population is identified as a student with a disability.

District and School Status Status according to the VDOE Report Card  Abingdon Elementary has obtained Accreditation Benchmarks in all subject areas for the last 2 years  AES Students in Proficiency Gap groups are achieving at Benchmarks for the 3Year average. However, there was a decline in performance of Gap Groups from Spring 2013 to Specifically, there has been a decline in Gap Group 1(SPED) and 2 (Black) in both English and Math. Data from 2015 has not been published on VDOE yet. Assumptions…  AES has a mature staff of experienced educators  Collaboration and collegiality among Special and General Ed. teachers could increase. This would most likely decrease the performance gap between Special Ed. And General Ed. Students and enhance teacher development  With newly revised tests being administered, teachers need development in teaching higher order thinking skills  Competency and exposure to changing technology among staff could increase

My objectives for this school… Collegiality I plan to establish and nurture a collegiate atmosphere, where professional growth will flourish. Relationships with all stakeholders will be first priority. Instruction will be meaningful, and will focus on developing higher order thinking skills. Teachers teaching teachers Evaluation and reflection of effectiveness and data Vision I will facilitate the creation of a shared vision of excellence in this school, and empower staff to take ownership and responsibility for the influence they have over student success. Instruction will continue to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of students in the 21 st Century. Shared purpose for student success Success Recognition of success will be given and celebrated. Student success will be maintained with structured management, effective communication, and instructional leadership. Communication Support Structure and safety
