Welcome to 7 th grade English with Ms.Palacios Supply List ( You should make a checklist on your giant folder or add this to your agenda.) Period 1: composition book, folder with pockets and brads, notebook paper, pens/mechanical pencils Periods 2,3,4,5,6: folder with pockets and brads, notebook paper, pens/mechanical pencils

MAKE A NAME PLATE (PERIOD 1 ONLY) On the front, print your name (large enough for me to see). USE MARKER On the inside, write four complete sentences using the following sentence stems. Choose one of each color. See next slide

If I could be anywhere right now, I’d be……….. If I could change anything, it would be……… My favorite ___ is ____ because…….. ___________is important to me because……… I feel very strongly that …., (so/and/but) I ……… I have noticed that …., (so/and/but) I…….. Last year in English I ….., (but/so/and) this year I …………….. Last year in school I……, (but/so/and) this year I ………………..

Do you know which sentences are compound? Why? Do you know which ones are complex? Why? Did you add any details/specific words to make your sentences specific?

STUDENT LOGO (PRE AP CLASSES) Design a personal logo that makes a statement about you as a person or represents an idea about something important to you. Try to create a logo that is symbolic or figurative. Draw that logo on the front of the sentence strip and write your name near it. Use a marker to make it visible.

On the inside, write a short paragraph discussing the significance of your logo/ design. Include and highlight at least one compound sentence (fanboys) and two complex sentences (as, while, when, until, because, if, since….). Also, use good spelling, capitalization, usage, and punctuation.

“I shall not be moved, just like a tree that’s planted by the water.” These words from a religious hymn explain why I chose a tree as my logo. Since I am the type of person who thrives on stability, the tree represents me well. If a tree is to survive, it must have roots that run deep enough to tap into a life source like water. For me, that life source is my family, so my son, husband, siblings, and mom are the center of my world.

Pre AP homework (add to agendas) Finish reading your summer reading novel by Friday. Groups will discuss the novel on Friday, so be sure you have at least read it. I will also work with you on annotations/highlighting etc...then. I will not collect your notes/annotated novels, etc. until some time later next week (maybe Wed.).

TODAY’S PPT/ INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON MY TEACHER WEB PAGE UNDER ASSIGNMENTS AND RUBRICS- DAY 1 INFORMATION.
