Preparation High school & college prep → algebra, biology & chemistry with labs HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Nurse 325: Medical Dosage Calculations Math 34: Pre - Algebra or eligible for Math Elementary Algebra EngRd 310 – Prose Analysis & Interpretation Read, write, comprehend, speak English 4

Educational Requirements PROOF OF ONE: High school graduation (transcript) GED scores Prior college degree Foreign high school evaluation for equivalency in U.S. (NACES) 5

Other requirements READING: If no A. S. Degree or higher will need: ENGRD 11: Reading Skill Development or Eligible for ENGRD 110: Efficient Reading PHYSICAL Physical Examination CPR with AED Background check and drug screening 6

Prerequisite Courses BIOL 100 Intro to Human Anatomy & Physiology (3 u) OR BIOL 430 (5 u) & BIO 431 (5 u) *Need minimum 3.0 GPA in sciences AH 110 Medical Language (3 u) FCS 340 or NUTRI 300 Nutrition (3 u) FCS 324 Human Development (3 u) PSYC 300 General Principles (3 u) *Minimum combined GPA 2.5 for above classes TOTAL PREREQUISITE UNITS = 15 units 7

Vocational Nursing Courses First semester: Units VN 120: Meeting Adult Basic Health Needs = 12 Second semester: VN 130: Meeting Health Needs of All Age Groups = 12 Third semester: VN 140: Meeting Complex Adult Health Needs = 12 TOTAL VOCATIONAL NURSING UNITS = 36 8

Financial Costs Background check, drug screen, immunization tracker=$115 CPR with AED – Health Provider = $60 Books, uniform, shoes, Nurse Kit ($94), supplies=$1500 Malpractice insurance ($30), Healthstream ($14) = $44 Physical exam, immunizations, PPD, flu shot = $200 Tuition for nursing courses ($46 x 36 units) = $1656 Graduation and licensing fees = $300 T O T A L (ESTIMATE) = $ 3875 (plus access to computer, Internet, printer, ink, paper) 10

Assessment Testing Must take TEAS test before applying; latest edition Testing provides diagnostic information for individual remediation while in the program HIGHLY recommend studying for the test ATI website to purchase TEAS Study Manual ($45); also available in Learning Resource Center 12

Time Commitment FULL TIME PROGRAM 4 days/week (26 hours class/clinical and 40 hours studying/preparing) Varying times for theory and clinical Students must achieve 75% or higher in each VN class for progression in program 13

Application Process SCC VN program uses online application process Must apply to the district at in order to obtain a student ID # With student ID # the student can access application through eservices account 14

Enrollment Eligibility Completion of : BIOL 100 with grade of B or better FCS 324/Psych 370 (Human Development), NUTRI 300/FCS 340 (Nutrition), & AH 110 Medical Lang. for Health-care Providers with cum. GPA of 2.5 Completion of ENGRD 11 with a “C” or better or eligibility for ENGRD 110 as determined by reading assessment process and no AD or higher High school graduate or pass the GED 15

Timelines o Application timelines have changed o One application period; fall and spring classes chosen o When completing online application you will learn whether you qualify for the pool o If eligible to apply, start gathering supporting documents 16

Must Submit Support Documents Support documents confirm responses Must submit all documents with online application cover page at the same time Incomplete applications are not processed Will not be notified re missing documents It is the responsibility of the student to make sure there are no missing documents 17

Conviction History  May not be allowed in a clinical facility  May not be qualified for nursing license  BVNPT has the right to deny any graduate opportunity to take NCLEX-PN  Prior to getting into the VN program, if criminal history is a concern, please check with the BVNPT
