ASL Club Mrs. Bencak & Mrs. Greene

Fingerspelling Review Welcome! If you are new this week, last week we introduced fingerspelling. Take a minute to practice and review your alphabet.

Telephone Game We’re going to play a short game! We’re going to have two groups – one group will be those of you who are skilled at fingerspelling already. The other group will be those of you who are just now learning. Each group will stand in a line and play the telephone game. NO VOICES! Be completely silent!

Survival Signs The first 100 signs you will learn are called “survival signs” – they are basic words that you will probably say on a daily basis. The words or phrases are written in ASL gloss. ASL gloss means the way it is signed. ASL does not follow the same syntax as English.

Watch and copy! Hello/Hi How you Name you Name me Ready Finish Not yet Understand Know Don’t know Don’t care Bathroom/restroom Please Thank you You’re welcome Where Who

Watch and copy! No Yes Right Not Wrong Oh I see Nice meet you Happy Sad Mad Tired Lazy Nervous Excited

Partner up! Practice having a conversation with your friends! Move around, introduce yourself to different people and ask them how they are. Remember, no voices!
