2 LMS Metrics (View Analytics)

3

4 Apps & Techniques Uploading numerous files and file types as assignments in the LMS (docs, photos, videos, etc.) Scanners, Apps, Smartphones Google Drive & other cloud storage Speed Grader (LMS) – great reason for electronic uploads Student ePortfolios created within the LMS

Uploading Files to the LMS 5 PROS: PLTW requirement for creating and maintaining an electronic portfolio Teachers can grade electronically and provide immediate electronic feedback (Speed Grader) CONS: File uploads can involve numerous files and file types (photos, software files, word & PDF docs, etc.) Can pose a technological challenge for students to upload files

6 Sample File Types for LMS Upload Modified Word doc with student answers

7 Sample File Types for LMS Upload Picture / Image file of actual student work

8 Sample File Types for LMS Upload Student completes activity by hand and uploads scanned pdf file

Upload Options 9 The Old Fashioned way…..SCANNER PROS: Easy and most classrooms have access to one CONS: Very time consuming Not many have access to one outside of school Multisim files can’t easily be scanned – must print first

Apps 10 CANVAS (FREE): ios 8.0 for iphone, Ipad, ipod touch Android OS *Also available: WebOS, Blackberry, and Windows Phone

11 Canvas App Nearly all of the features in the LMS are available on the phone app Easy to submit assignments using Google Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud- based apps or Easy to submit photos of circuits or documents directly from your phone

12 Canvas App pltw.instructure.com Use your login credentials to access the LMS Similar look and feel as LMS Most, but not all features are available

13 Canvas App

14 Canvas App – File Uploads

15 Canvas App – Other Screens

Smartphones – (No Canvas) 16 Smartphone scanning apps: Google Drive (Android - free) CamScanner(Android, ios, Windows – free/pay) Scannable by Evernote (ios – free/pay) Genius Scan(Android, ios, Windows – free/pay)

Google Drive App (Android only): Scan in pics, files etc. into PDF files – crops but extra features not great OCR capabilities Obviously works directly with Google Drive storage Really EASY to use (multiple pages) Google Drive as a scanner?? 17

Google Drive as a scanner?? 18

19 CamScanner Most Popular – used by most of my kids OCR capabilities Best auto-crop, “enhance”, and annotate scanned images features Cloud based synch & storage available ($1.99) via Google Drive, Dropbox etc. Easy to use

20 CamScanner

21 CamScanner

Similar to CamScanner – scans to PDF but also image files Auto-crop, “enhance”, and annotate scanned images – not as good as CamScanner Cloud based synch & storage available ($6.99) via Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote etc. Most easy to use with less free features 22 Genius Scan

23 Genius Scan

Scannable by Evernote 24 Similar to CamScanner – scans to PDF or image files Very limited Auto-crop, “enhance”, and annotate features – not nearly as good as CamScanner Can send image via the app selected from your phone (cloud, , etc.) Automated feature is good – automatically switches back from manual

Scannable by Evernote 25

26 Scannable by Evernote

27 Skitch by Evernote Use Skitch to annotate photos and PDFs, or start from scratch with a blank canvas. Students can use prior to uploading PDF files to the LMS Easy to use Part of Evernotes suite of apps so it integrates well with Evernote and Scannable

28 Skitch by Evernote

Speed Grader (LMS) 29 Easy electronic grading of uploaded files Comments, text within the document, draw, highlight etc. Comments sent via canvas to student Assignment version control Attach files and audio comments
