The Many Faces of Radiologic Technology

What is Radiologic Technology or Radiography? It is the art and science of using radiation to provide images of tissues, organs, bones and vessels that comprise the human body for diagnosis of injuries or diseases.

Radiologic Technologist or Radiographer RT.(R)  An essential member of the healthcare team who uses ionizing radiation to produce quality images which help in the diagnosis of injury and disease.  A two-year or 4-year degree are required.

 Strong academic background in math and science  Good communication skills  Like working with people of all ages (especially the sick or infirm)  Like working with equipment and technology  Able to work under stress  Responsible/Reliable/Ethical  Able to tolerate “blood & guts” What kind of person makes a good Radiographer?

Starting Salary Upon Graduation  $19.00-$24.00/hour  $39,520-$50,000/year in this region.  Increases with experience and added competencies and credentials, ex. CT, MRI, Mammography, US, etc.

York Technical College Radiologic Technology Program

 Two-year (six semester) Program  Nationally Accredited by the JRCERT, (The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology(  Starts in May, summer semester  Limited enrollment program; Accepting 19 students per year. York Technical College Radiologic Technology Program

 High School Diploma or Equivalent PLUS:  Minimum SAT Scores:  SAT within last 5 years.  480 Verbal and 540 Math, plus an 88 on COMPASS Reading.  OR  Minimum ACT scores of at least 21 Verbal and 23 Math, also with an 88 COMPASS Reading score Admission Requirements

 OR  COMPASS or Asset Placement tests alone.  COMPASS Scores required minimum: English 70; Algebra 66; Reading 88.  OR the Completion of the Health Science Certificate general education courses INCLUDING electives, with a GPR of 2.5 or above. (Math 110 required). Admission Requirements

 Students qualifying by the general education route must take a placement test.  Students scoring lower than a 45 on ASSET Reading or 88 on Compass must enroll in the appropriate reading course(s) in order to qualify for entry into the program. Admission Requirements

 Upon qualifying for the program, the student must pay a $50 processing fee in order to be placed on the waiting list in the CASS office located in the Student Services building.

Admission Requirements  Students are required to attend an advising session with the Radiology program faculty prior to entering the program to outline all the details of your coursework.

 When your names comes up on the waiting list, a letter will be sent by Student Services informing you of your official acceptance into the program.  Be certain you keep your contact information updated at the college!  The letter will request payment of $100 nonrefundable, nontransferable deposit for confirmation of your intent to enroll in the next class.  Response must be given by the deadline on the letter or you will forfeit your slot. Admission Requirements

 You must provide the following items prior to the first day of class:  Have a complete physical examination within 3 months of starting the program. This includes several blood tests for proof of disease immunity.  Proof of two MMR vaccinations or proof of immunity by titer for entire MMR if vaccination is not provided. Rubella and Varicella titers required (If titers prove non-immunity then booster vaccinations are required). Proof of 2 step PPD within the last 3 months and Hepatitis vaccine recommended (documentation of declination is required if student does not have the vaccine).  Complete the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR BLS course.  Provide evidence of medical insurance.  Submit proof of payment for your Criminal Background check.  Complete required drug screens and orientations at clinical affiliates. Program Costs  First Semester  Approximately $1600  Includes: tuition, books, uniforms, Hepatitis B Vaccine, Physical exam, CPR certification, Pb markers, Name tag, Liability insurance

Program Costs  Other Semesters  Approximately $1700 per semester average.  Includes: tuition, books, transportation, supplies  Financial Aid can be applied.

Rad Tech Program Grading Scale-No Rad. courses accept any grade below 80% for passing.  RAD TECH  A  86-92B  80-85C  70-79D  below70F  YORK TECH  A  80-89B  70-79C  60-69D  below 59 F

Rad Tech Program Schedule  First Year  Classes: Monday, Wednesday, Friday  Hours: 8:00-5:00  Clinical: Tuesday & Thursday  Hours: 7:30-3:30, 8:00- 4:00, 2:00-10:00  Second Year  Classes: Tuesday & Thursday  Hours: 8:00-5:00  Clinical: Monday, Wednesday, Friday  Hours: 8.5 per day

Upon Completion of the program  You will sit for the national certification examination by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the ARRT, to become a Registered RT, (R). 
