Websites Useful for the Instruction of Mathematical Disciplines

Online Math Learning Need to know something about Math? This is a one- stop shop for any mathematical discipline. It has lessons and practice on everything from arithmetic to calculus. When you’re bored of reading through lessons, it also offers games to reinforce learning and to entertain. Students will love this site.

Graphing Calculator Online This is a handy tool to have in an Algebra class. It’s an online graphing calculator with a lot of neat features. You can graph equations in a slope-intercept format, as well as plot points. It even has the ability to calculate intersects between two graphs. It’s everything a student would need to visually see equations and graph them instantly, and it’s available wherever a computer is. Plus, it’s a lot cheaper than a tangible graphing calculator!

Algebra Help This website has everything children would need for an Algebra class. It offers lessons and reviews over topics that would be covered in a regular class setting. It also offers different types of calculators and even a graphing tool. This website also has a variety of worksheets and test to assess the students’ skills. Algebra Help: it’s everything you’d need in one place.

Math Forum Forums aren’t just for social networking. In addition to offering lessons and quizzes, Math Forum is a great place for students to seek help from their peers. The community is expansive and full of people willing to answer questions or discuss topics. Students will feel welcome and among friends. Math Forum can help students learn after school in an expansive online study group.

Figure This Figure This offers help and review over several math topics. However, unlike all other sites similar to this, these are presented entirely through games and word problems. It’s a very entertaining method of presentation. Students are constantly engaged in the problem. It also show real world relevance involving different mathematical disciplines.

The Math League The Math League offers students several venues for competition. A perfect site for students wanting to compete against their peers, it has information on several contests held through the year. It also offers some help with general principals. The Math League is a great site to prepare students for a level of competition. It allows a way for students to meet their peers and breeds healthy competition.

Mathvids Mathvids is a very unique approach to teaching students math. While most online math lessons are text based, Mathvids takes a new approach. It has a large library of video tutorials over many math subjects. It also has sections for college, high school, and junior high. Mathvids is a great site for visual learners, offering stimulating videos.

History of Math MacTutor shows off an impressive collection of the historical figures and events in math. This site contains biographies of mathematicians from 1500 BC to the present day. It’s a great place to discover the foundations of math and the people behind the subject. It’s also a good place for students to see where the subject comes from. Anyone with an interest for origins should look here.

Cut the Knot Cut the Knot is a very interesting site. Not only does it contain mathematical lessons and games, it also contains trivia. The “Did you know?…” section contains some very interesting facts about math. While not entirely pertinent to all subjects in school, these facts are nonetheless interesting. Cut the Knot offers a curios database for random math facts.

Purple Math Purple Math is an incredibly comprehensive algebra site. Every aspect of algebra is included on it. Also, the site ranks subjects from easiest to hardest. Everything in Algebra is covered, but even better, it’s explained very well. Purple Math is one of the most practical, most comprehensive Algebra tools on the internet.

The Math Atlas The Math Atlas is a great tool for students who don’t see applications for what they learn in the classroom. It’s a database containing information on several disciplines. It also connects math to real world uses and jobs. If you’ve ever wondered how different disciplines are connected and where they lead, this website will have the answer. The Math Atlas is a great tool for students who want to use what they learned and continue studying it.

Visual Calculus Visual Calculus is a great site for people who have trouble visualizing the subjects. It contains very detailed tutorials over topics. However, it also has animations to demonstrate the topic. It helps clear up the steps taken to find the solution to problems. The interactive animations and simulations will keep students involved and explain the subject in a way words cannot.
