Maths Department Personalised homework from the class teacher appears here. You will usually have one or two per week In year 7 we encourage pupils to work through the ‘My Levels’ section. Some weeks teachers will set this as homework, or as part of classwork. Your Child can work on all areas of mymaths whether they are set or not!

2. Adaptive Mangahigh uses adaptive technology and native games techniques to allow all learners a way into maths and allows students to work at the level that is challenging and extending for them. 1. Wonderful, Fascinating Maths Maths is an essential academic skill for all students, and Mangahigh makes the subject more interesting and accessible Our games and challenges are 100% maths, and they are hard work, but students nevertheless enjoy them Why Manga High?

Maths Department 3. Simple Students get their own login and their own interface for Mangahigh, with a personal To-Do list. They can easily see what is required of them by what date and they enjoy the process of completing tasks, often earlier or to a higher level than required! 4. Competition Students enjoy healthy competition, and Mangahigh lets students compete with each other, and other students from around the world. Mangahigh is the home of Fai-To, a thrilling bilateral school competition, and students also enjoy checking their school’s position on the Global Leaderboard.

Maths Department 5. Maths Support Students are offered full maths support throughout their experience on Mangahigh. Within Prodigi, students review scaffold learning material first, and can then access hints and solutions for over 40,000 Prodigi questions. Our maths games offer integrated maths help, often dynamically linked to gameplay 6. Social Mangahigh is a social activity that gives students the feeling of studying with their friends. Students enjoy playing the games together, and class leaderboards, Fai-Tos, and the Firestarter award for early completion of homework give individuals the opportunity for personal prominence while protecting slower learners.

Maths Department What you can do to support your child: Keep a copy of the logins somewhere safe Show an interest Encourage them to start set work early in case of technical difficulties If you are unsure of how to help with the maths refer them to the MyMaths lessons or suggest they attend a homework club at school Computers are available for students to work on at school and help is always available, but needs to be sought before the deadline!

Stretch and Challenge in the classroom We value all of our pupils and work towards each individual achieving their potential. During lessons pupils will have differentiated work set so that CORE skills are embedded, there are opportunities for thinking and learning to be EXTENDED (with some teacher guidance if needed) and for those pupils who are up for a challenge, KILLER questions that allow our pupils to discover interesting mathematical concepts by themselves and apply them to the real world. In order to develop their analysis and problem solving skills, pupils are encouraged to use HIGHER ORDER THINKING through questioning by the teacher and by each other e.g. Can you justify your answer? What would happen if…? Can you think of an example/counter example? Find the nth term for each sequence:

Maths Department Stretch and Challenge outside the classroom Within the Mathematics department, the following activities take place to encourage students to take on new challenges: Lunch time puzzle club Summer School Y7 and Y8 UKMT Junior Maths Challenge (all pupils in set 1 and some set 2 pupils). This was extremely successful last year with 13 of our Year 7 students achieving Silver and Bronze awards (only the top 40% of students nationally achieve these awards!)

Form time Numeracy 1 session of Numeracy in form time. Topic focused video on Mathswatch, with graded questions afterwards.

Maths Department Catch-up Numeracy is a 1-1 session aiming to improve the Numeracy ability of our pupils. Each pupil is tested for their Numeracy age. We run Catch-Up with pupils who need the support the most. Numeracy

Maths Department Rapid Maths Rapid Maths booklets are available to pupils who need some support but not Catch-Up. Pupils attempt these booklets at home, there are 5 booklets in total with increasing dificulty.
