Lord’s Supper Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. Acts 20:7

The Price Of Sin & Hope We Have

What Price Would You Say Sin Has? How Can We Articulate It?

-The word “Lamentations” means “mourning aloud, wailing, expressing sorrow.” -Hebrew- How -Greek- Tears -Latin- Lament

Place In Jewish Eyes Esther - Read at the Purim Ruth - Read at Pentecost Song of Songs - Read at Passover Ecclesiastes - Read at Tabernacles Lamentations - Read at Tisha B'Av

Circumstances Jerusalem - Psalm 48:2, 46:4-5 Fall mentioned in Jeremiah twice, 2 kings, 2 Chron., and Jeremiah 2 Kings 25- Facts Of The Fall These things happened as a result of them turning away from God

Lamentations 1-2: The Price Of Sin

Sin Brings Great Heartache- 1:1-9 8 Jerusalem has sinned gravely, Therefore she has become vile. All who honored her despise her Because they have seen her nakedness; Yes, she sighs and turns away. 9 Her uncleanness is in her skirts; She did not consider her destiny; Therefore her collapse was awesome; She had no comforter. “O L ORD, behold my affliction, For the enemy is exalted!”

Sin Brings Great Heartache- 1:1-9 v4- road to Zion mourn all those wasted opportunities no more singing songs no one there, no priest there

Sin Brings Great Heartache- 1:1-9 God will not allow sin to go unpunished. 1:5,12; 2:1-5; 12 “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see If there is any sorrow like my sorrow, Which has been brought on me, Which the L ORD has inflicted In the day of His fierce anger.

Sin Brings Great Heartache- 1:1-9 God will not allow sin to go unpunished. 1:5,12; 2:1-5; There are tragedies in life we will face because we live in a broken world cursed by sin waiting on Jesus to return The reason they are hurting is because of unrepentant sin God is right in all he does- 1:18

Sin Brings Great Heartache- 1:1-9 God will not allow sin to go unpunished. 1:5,12; 2:1-5; Sin does have its price tag. Ch 2 2:1-10- God is active Jeremiah has to cry v14- Listened to the wrong people v17- God will carry out His purpose- Jer. 51:12, Zach 1:6

Lamentations 3: The Hope We Have

21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. 24 “The L ORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” 29 Let him put his mouth in the dust— There may yet be hope. Lamentations 3

1-24- Remember the Lord's unending love and mercy 7 He has hedged me in so that I cannot get out; He has made my chain heavy. 8 Even when I cry and shout, He shuts out my prayer… 17 You have moved my soul far from peace; I have forgotten prosperity. 18 And I said, “My strength and my hope Have perished from the L ORD.”

22 Through the L ORD ’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The L ORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”

1-24- Remember the Lord's unending love and mercy God is good v27- Are burdens good? v32- The Lord's compassion outweighs any sorrow he sends v33- God's primary desire is not to hurt people- only to restore and redeem.

37 Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, When the Lord has not commanded it? 38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High That woe and well-being proceed? 39 Why should a living man complain, A man for the punishment of his sins? Lamentations 3

1-24- Remember the Lord's unending love and mercy God is good Forgiveness and answered prayers What God has done What has come upon us Crying about it again

55 I called on Your name, O L ORD, From the lowest pit. 56 You have heard my voice: “Do not hide Your ear From my sighing, from my cry for help.” 57 You drew near on the day I called on You, And said, “Do not fear!” 58 O Lord, You have pleaded the case for my soul; You have redeemed my life. 59 O L ORD, You have seen how I am wronged; Judge my case. Lamentations 3
