Debate Starter

Instructions You have a short time to put across your ideas either ‘for’ or ‘against’ the statement (depending on which team you are in). Politeness must be shown at all times.

Quick fire Debate 1 For just one day. Everybody by law should go without food, just for one day a year, so that they can understand the plight of the poor better.

Quick fire Debate 2 Special Glasses If there was a special pair of glasses available which, if you wore them, would allow you to read someone’s thoughts, this would be a good thing.

Quick fire Debate 3 The knowledge machine There should be an invention so that at the age of ten you could put your head into a special scanning machine and all the world’s knowledge could be transferred into your brain.

Quick fire Debate 4 The law should allow a maximum of 6 hours sleep per person per night so that people can work more hours and make the country more productive.

Quick fire Debate 5 At school many subjects are taught which don’t really help students in their real lives. There should be classes on things like: 1.How to manage your money. 2.How to manage stress. 3.How to deal with people.

Quick fire Debate 6 If you’re progress at school is good the reward should be for you to be able to wear any clothes you like.

Quick fire Debate 7 Meeting friends on line just does not work. The only way to make a good friend is to actually meet them face to face.

Quick fire Debate 8 Colours are important. Students should be allowed to chose the colour of pen they write with and the colour of the paper they write on.

Quick fire Debate 9 Students get enough holidays and under no circumstances should anyone be allowed to take a holiday in term time.

Quick fire Debate 10 Poetry has no use in the world.

Quick fire Debate 11 At secondary school it should be like junior school – you should have the same teacher for every lesson.

Quick fire Debate 12 When people get to eighty five years old they should not be allowed to drive anymore.

Quick fire Debate 13 Clubs foster good people skills which help in the work place. Therefore, every student should, by law, be a member of at least one after school club.

Quick fire Debate 14 We should all do more to save our planet. It should be scheduled for each person to spend at least an hour per day doing something specifically which helps with saving the planet. You shouldn’t leave it to others.

Quick fire Debate 15 With the increase in social networking sites there is less need to travel.

Quick fire Debate 16 Stalking should be seen as a much more serious crime than it is. It should have a minimum of ten years imprisonment because it ruins lives.

Quick fire Debate 17 All memories are sad because the times you are remembering have gone forever.

Quick fire Debate 18 Courtesy will always be important.

Quick fire Debate19 Animals should have the same rights as humans.

Quick fire Debate 20 There is far too much talk about food these days.
