Instructor: Angela Champion One Point Perspective Drawings

Problem Using One Point Perspective you are to create a drawing that incorporates elements of Neoclassic from Early America. The drawing must include: Horizon line Vanishing point Orthogonal line Neoclassic Elements

Research QuestionsExample What is One Point Perspective? What is One Point Perspective? How do you draw in one point perspective? What are Neoclassic elements in architecture? Kurt Wenner

Where are the following? Vanishing Point, Horizon Line, and Orthogonal Horizon line: Line where the earth and the sky meet. Vanishing Point: Point at which all object disappear. Orthogonal: Lines that lead your eye to the vanishing point.

How to Draw in One Point Perspective Start with a horizon line and a vanishing point.

Next Draw a square

and take the corners to the vanishing point

End the back of the box with vertical and horizontal lines

Erase the remaining orthogonals!

Now try this technique in other areas!

Now try drawing other forms to the vanishing point!!!

Next lets add windows and doors! If the windows and doors are on the side of building, the tops and bottoms of windows and doors are to the vanishing point. If the window or door is on the front of the building then it has no perspective.

Next lets add other cool stuff!!! Remember that when objects go back towards the vanishing point they appear smaller and closer together!!!

Neoclassic Style Relates back to the classical antiquity of the architecture of Ancient Rome and Greece. Characteristics include: Tall columns that span the height of the building. Symmetry Domed Roof Friezes Triangular Pediment Arches/Arches for windows. Anderson County Court House!!!

Know Your Columns!

Generate Ideas List out possible ideas for different scenes, towns, neighborhoods, stores, cities, etc. Research more about Neoclassical features and sketch them.

Test Make a thumbnail sketch of the layout of your drawing. Be sure to include vanishing point and horizon line!

Final Solution Combine your research, idea generations and test ideas on the good paper. Sketch in pencil. You may add shading with pencil or ebony. The drawing may also be finished in pen after a preliminary pencil drawing underneath the pen.

Evaluation What did you learn about one point perspective? What would you like to know more about? How successful was your drawing? What would you do differently next time? How would you expand on this technique?
