Presentation transcript:

Volleyball Offense General Notes We run a 6-2 – 6 hitters and 2 setters. Back row setter sets so front row setter can hit (gives us 3 hitters) Make pass to the setter position If back row setter must take first hit, call “setter out”; front row setter takes sets In Base, front row gets off net to attack (Of-4; Mf-2; Sf-5) Back row hits downballs (Black-Left; Red-Right) Use all types of hits – spike, roll, tip, shoot, downball

Volleyball Rotations General Notes when Serving We will always serve in this order: 1-Setter, 2-Outside, 3-Middle, 4-Setter, 5-Outside, 6-Middle If we begin game in Receive, we will line up in Middle Receive The front row middle will always line up in the middle – others in front row will move around her. The server is technically not on the court so overlap rules do not apply to server. Watch overlap with player directly in front or behind and with players within same row.

Volleyball Rotations General Notes when Receiving Serve We always have 3 players receiving serve. We hide the back row setter so she can take the 2nd hit to set the attack. The back row setter takes sets with the exception of when we are in Middle Receive—the front row will set the attack and then after players go to base, the back row setter will take the rest of the sets. If back row setter must take the first hit, call “Setter Out”; front row setter takes sets. After our first attack gets past the opponent’s front row, we quickly go to Base. Watch overlap with player directly in front or behind and with players within same row.

S M O O M S SF OF OB SB MF MB SETTER SERVE Front Row Setter and Front Row Outside switch on serve contact in order to get into Base. Server goes to Base.

S M O MF SF OF O OB M S MB SB SETTER RECEIVE – Outside (B); Middle (B); Outside (F) Back Row Setter lines up behind Front Row Outside. First attack: Front Row Setter hits a 4; Front Row Middle hits a 2; Front Row Outside hits a 5; Back Row Outside hits “Black”; Back Row Middle hits “Red”. Then all move to Base. Watch Overlap: Setter (B) must line up behind Outside (F) and to right of Middle (B).

O S M O M S OF SF SB OB MF MB OUTSIDE SERVE Front Row Setter goes around Front Row Middle on serve contact to get into base. Server goes to Base.

O S M MF SF SB OF OB O M S MB OUTSIDE RECEIVE – Outside (F); Middle (B); Outside (B) Setters “Stack” by lining up at the net--Front Row Setter is a hitter and Back Row Setter takes the sets. First attack: Front Row Outside hits a “4”; Front Row Middle hits a “2”; Front Row Setter hits a “5”; Back Row Middle hits “Black”; Back Row Outside hits “Red” Watch Overlap: Setters must stay in the middle of their respective row players; Setter (B) must line up behind Setter (F).

M O S S O M OF SF SB OB MF MB MIDDLE SERVE On serve contact, Back Row Setter and Back Row Outside switch to get into Base; Front Row Outside goes around Front Row Middle to get into Base. Server goes to Base.

M O S MF OF SF S O M SB MB OB MIDDLE RECEIVE – Setter (B); Outside (B); Middle (B) Front Row Setter takes first set. First attack: Front Row Middle hits a “4”; Front Row Outside hits a “2”; Back Row Outside hits “Black”; Back Row Middle hits “Red”. After going to Base, Back Row Setter takes rest of sets. Watch Overlap: Outside (F) lines up to right of Middle (F)

Base Defense We move to Base upon contact of serve when we serve. We move to Base when we receive serve once we get ball past opponent’s front row. Play “outside in” to protect lines and avoid backpedalling. Take ball with hands when possible. Communication is key—”MINE!”; “UP”; “BACK”; “PLAY”; “OUT”

OF SF OB SB MF MB BASE DEFENSE This is our initial base position before we know what type of attack we will receive from opponent.

OF SF OB SB MF MB BASE DEFENSE - MIDDLE ATTACK Front Row Middle blocks; Front Row Outside and Front Row Setter cover to sides and behind Middle; Back Row Outside and Back Row Setter protect the lines and cover middle of court; Back Row Middle covers entire back row. If ball is not hit to Back Row Setter, she releases to net to set. If she takes first hit, “Setter Out”; Front Row Setter takes set.

MF SF OF OB SB MB BASE DEFENSE - RIGHT SIDE ATTACK (Their Outside Side) Front Row Middle helps Front Setter block; Front Row Outside covers to side and behind Middle; Back Row Outside and Back Row Setter protect the lines and cover middle of court; Back Row Middle covers entire back row. If ball is not hit to Back Row Setter, she releases to net to set. If she takes first hit, “Setter Out”; Front Row Setter takes set.

OF SF OB SB MF MB BASE DEFENSE - LEFT SIDE ATTACK (Their Setter Side) Front Row Middle helps Front Row Outside block; Front Row Setter covers to side and behind Middle; Back Row Outside and Back Row Setter protect the lines and cover middle of court; Back Row Middle covers entire back row. If ball is not hit to Back Row Setter, she releases to net to set. If she takes first hit, “Setter Out”; Front Row Setter takes set.

SB OF SF OB MF MB BASE DEFENSE - FREE BALL ATTACK Immediately upon reading the “Free Ball”, Front Row Players move back off net to hopefully be able to receive free ball. Back Row Setter releases to net (before ball is hit); Back Row Outside and Back Row Middle cover back court
