Introduction: Mango is known as King of fruits which contain high vitamin A. Mango is large, branched perennial tree widely grown in India. Many popular varieties of mango are cultivated in India. Mango Growing states : Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal. Area under Mango Cultivation in India :23.09 Lakh Hectares Annual Production of Mango in India :127.50 Lakh Tonnes Mango Productivity in India: 5.52 Tonnes per Hectare

Alphonso (Happus) State : Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Fruit medium in size, oblong in shape, Orange yellow in colour and average 250-300 gram. Pulp firm and moderate to abundant with excellent shelf life up to month. Good for export, pulping and canning. Problems in Alphonso cultivar: The tree bear fruits in alternate years. Fruit develop spongy tissue inside, which deteriorate quality of pulp. Alphonso (Happus)

Bangalora (Totapuri) State : Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, & Tamil Nadu. Fruits medium to large size 400-500 gm, oblong shaped with pointed base. Pulp golden yellow in colour of flesh with Good keeping quality. Regular bearer, used for processing Problem in Banglora: Tree is Susceptible to bacterial leaf spot disease. Bangalora (Totapuri)

Banganapalli (Baneshan, Safeda) State : Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu. Bangapalli Mango fruits are large sized, oval in shaped, Golden yellow in colour Bangapalli Variety suitable for dry land areas, Moderate keeping quality and good for canning Problems of Banganpalli: Fruit bears in alternate years. Banganapalli (Baneshan, Safeda)

Dashehari State : Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. Fruit size is small to medium, elongated shape and yellow colour Popular mango variety with Good keeping quality Fibreless pulp, Mostly used for table purpose Problems: Susceptible to mango malformation. Dashehari- 51: is regular bearing & yielding clone of Dashehari. Dashehari

Kesar State: Gujarat and Maharashtra. Fruit medium sized, oblong shaped with a red blush on the shoulders. Good Keeping Quality, Ideal For Pulping and Juice Early Season Variety, Good for export. Regular bearing and resistant to spongy tissue Kesar

Langra State : Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal and Punjab. Trees vigorous and spreading Fruit medium size, ovate in shape Skin is very thin, Pulp is very sweet, Used for table purpose. Problems: Alternate year fruit bearing variety Poor keeping quality of fruits Langra

Neelum State : Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Orissa. Fruit medium size, ovate shape and Saffron yellow in colour High yielding and regular bearing Good keeping quality and used for table purpose Ideal for transportation to distant places Neelum

Chausa State : Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Fruit large size, oval shape and light yellow in colour Flesh fibrous, Very sweet in taste Used for table & processing purpose Problems: Trees grows taller showing apical dominance. Tree bears fruit at Alternate years with medium keeping quality Chausa

Mallika (Neelum X Dashehari) Released at: IARI, New Delhi. Fruit large size, oblong to elliptical in shape and yellow in color. Keeping quality is good and Mostly used for table purpose.  Mallika

Amrapali (Dashehari X Neelum) Released at: IARI, New Delhi. Trees are Dwarf, regular bearing and late maturing variety Suitable for high density orchard plantation Pulp is fibreless and sweet Average yield 16 tonnes/hectare Amrapali

Ratna (Neelum X Alphonso) Released at: Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith, Dapoli, Maharashtra. Tree moderately vigorous in growth. Fruits are medium size and attractive in colour Fruits are free from spongy tissue Ratna

Sindhu (Ratna X Alphonso) Released at: Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith,Dapoli, Maharashtra. Regular fruit bearing variety Fruits medium sized, fibreless and free from spongy tissue High pulp to stone ratio and stone very thin and small. Sindhu

Arka Neelkiran (Alphonso x Neelum) Released at: IIHR, Bangalore. Late season variety, tree is semi-vigorous in growth. Fruit medium sized and elliptic in shape. On ripening fruits get golden yellow colour. Fruit skin is smooth, medium thick, Pulp is deep yellow in colour and free from spongy tissue.
