Why it is Innovative/Important Our world is heading toward an eco-friendly approach to how we live our lives, and Starbucks is doing just that! LEED certified Saves energy, conserves building materials, less carbon footprint Reusable recycled $1 cups $0.10 personal cup discount (saves waste)

How the Technology Works Currently certified 207 stores in 17 countries Porto Chino (Thailand), 1 st LEED Gold Starbucks in Asia This store includes: – use of recycled coffee grounds in table tops – low emitting materials for adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings and flooring – over 10% of materials extracted within 500 miles – over 45% lighting power savings through the use of efficient LED fixtures

Energy Conservation/Renewable Energy Temperatures and heat waves Installing Energy Star® qualified equipment Renewable Energy Credits (RECs)

Investing in renewable energy Electricity vs. fossil fuels Each LED light bulb saves approx. $30 annually in energy costs &eliminates the equivalent CO2 as half a barrel of oil Each 1,000 sq. ft. store on average would save nearly $600 annually and eliminate the equivalent CO2 as 10 barrels of oil LED lights reduced total store energy consumption by 7%

Comprehensive recycling solutions UK stores are currently diverting approximately 50% of their waste from landfills with this method Recyclable behind the counter: cardboard boxes, milk jugs, syrup bottles, coffee grounds Grounds For Your Garden program

In 2012 customers brought their own tumblers into Starbucks stores 35.8 million times This saved more than 1.6 million pounds of paper from andfills!

If used daily for a month, you have helped avoid using more than a pound of paper or 3.5 pounds of wood At the end of its life (PP (#5)), recycle this cup and help minimize your impact on the planet even more
