Chapter Using Imperial Units for Length You will need your data pages to complete the following. Use only these data pages not your workbook for the conversions.

The following is a lesson on how to do a conversion. Play close attention to the set up and the order things are done, because this is how you are to set up your conversions.

Question: How many feet are there in 2 yards?

To begin start with what you know: 2 yd

How many feet are there in 2 yards? Next set up your conversion factor adding a times sign and a line 2 yd x ________

How many feet are there in 2 yards? Write the units you want on the top and the units your getting rid of on the bottom- this way the units cancel out 2 yd x ________ ft yd

How many feet are there in 2 yards? Write the units you want on the top and the units your getting rid of on the bottom- this way the units cancel out 2 yd x ________ ft yd

How many feet are there in 2 yards? Then look at your data pages and fill in the numbers that match (1 yard = 3 feet) 2 yd x ___3___ ft = 1 yd

How many feet are there in 2 yards? Solve the question (2 x 3 ÷ 1 = 6) 2 yd x ___3___ ft = 6 ft 1 yd Remember to include your units.

By setting up your conversion the same each time you will ensure that you get a correct answer. This is the process that is to be used to complete all homework, even if it is simple and you “know” how to do it, it is good to practice on those questions so that you will know how to do it on the harder questions.

Question How many feet are there in 65 inches?

To begin start with what you know: 65 in

How many feet are there in 65 inches? Next set up your conversion factor adding a times sign and a line 65 in x _________

How many feet are there in 65 inches? Write the units you want on the top and the units your getting rid of on the bottom- this way the units cancel out 65 in x _________ ft in

How many feet are there in 65 inches? Write the units you want on the top and the units your getting rid of on the bottom- this way the units cancel out 65 in x _________ ft in

How many feet are there in 65 inches? Then look at your data pages and fill in the numbers that match (1 foot = 12 inches) 65 in x ____1_____ ft 12 in

How many feet are there in 65 inches? Solve the question (65 x 1 ÷ 12 = ) 65 in x ____1_____ ft = ft 12 in Remember to include your units.
