How would you feel if the person with your life in their hands was not as well qualified as you thought they were?

Are medical students being trained properly? Miranda Worthington Dawn Craft Randy Parker Nan Danehower

Why I choose my topic  I have had a strong interest in the medical field.  I plan to go to medical school and become a doctor.  I wanted to learn more about the process and the challenges to be a doctor.

To become a doctor..  Decide if getting a medical degree is right  Go to 4 years undergraduate school  Take the MCAT test  Go to Graduate school  Do residency  Get Medical License

Steps  Decide if medical school is right  Ask yourself:  Do I care about other people?  Do I enjoy learning?  Am I interested in the human body?  Think of advantages and disadvantages for you  Don’t do it for the money

Steps  In Undergraduate school  Primarily major in Biology or Chemistry  Must take certain classes to be eligible for medical school such as: one year general chemistry with lab, one year organic chemistry with lab, one year biology, one year physics, college math.  Keep grades high to meet medical schools GPA requirement of min of 3.5  Should be volunteering and doing community service

Steps  Taking the MCAT  Study months in advance  Determines weather or not Medical school is right for you  Applying for Medical School  Must meet all requirements of grades and prerequisite courses  Must have volunteering history  Must show strong aspirations

Steps  Graduate School  Must be focused  Rigorous curriculum  Residency  The practice job  Show good morals and ethics  License  Evaluated by Doctors on morals, seriousness, dedication, and knowledge

How it Relates My research topic, about how to become a doctor and how it is difficult, is related to my product, volunteering at WakeMed hospital, because I was able to see hands on how well trained medical professionals were and was able to assist them in their normal work routine.

Product: Scrapbook

Challenges  Finding a near by hospital volunteer program  Finding a Mentor  Time and availability  Miscommunication  Scheduling

Successes  Was able to volunteer with my mentor on the floor she works on  Became a Junior Volunteer  Volunteered for over 20 hours in a weekend  Have a summer volunteer program at the hospital set up for me  Had fun!

What I learned  I learned that I need to be more aggressive with processes like this.  I learned that if there is a will there is a way.  I learned how to volunteer at the hospital and how to do some simple tasks for a nurse.  I learned that I love the medical field.

Conclusion I have came to the conclusion through my research and through personal experience that medical professionals are very well trained. They are tested and schooled to the best ability and narrowed down so that only the best and most qualified people can be professionals.

Thank you! Do you have any questions?
