Prevention The most common prevention method for measles is the MMR Vaccine Aka the Measles-Mumps- Rubella Vaccine Administered first between 12 & 15 months with a booster needed administered again between 4 & 6 years old. Measles spreads through airborne particles (cough/ sneeze), through saliva, skin to skin contact, touching contaminated surfaces, and from mother to child through pregnancy & nursing.

Treatment & Cures No Established Treatment  Over-the-counter fever reducers and Vitamin A are often used to help manage symptoms Acetaminophen can also be used to reduce Pain and discomfort.

Key Facts Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children despite the fact that a safe and cost-effective vaccine ( the MMR Vaccine) is available. In 2013, there were 145,700 measles deaths globally. Measles vaccination caused measles deaths to drop 75% between 2000 and 2013 worldwide.

News? An outbreak of Measles traced to Disneyland spurred a national debate over vaccination and the risk Measles & Anti-vaccination poses to national health. http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm- /fd388f0ff1e572d7706b9d24c941eba1cfd487e9/c=4-0-3595- 2700&r=x404&c=534x401/local/- /media/2015/01/24/Phoenix/Phoenix/635577349498171484- disney-measles-benson.jpg

Despite copious amounts of research conducted by the CDC and WHO many individuals still refuse to vaccinate their children. Since mass vaccination is the best way to prevent measles outbreaks (because it is so contagious) even one unvaccinated child can put many at risk. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&r ct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd =&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CAYQjB1 qFQoTCIPp7Kmgx8gCFcuKDQod6P 0AQQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.c agle.com%2Fnews%2Fdisneyland- measles%2Fpage%2F2%2F&psig=AF QjCNHzXc41cj4weHUDXKnmNbOS 6hdjbw&ust=1445093852134071
